The moss garden

A content update with new levels, numerous QoL changes and bug fixes! Basically a full post-jam master of all the stuff I didn't have time for. Player feedback was also really helpful in smoothing the rough edges, thank you!

  • New area - The moss gardens. A set of levels showcasing controlling the orb without kicking it.
  • New temple level - Introduces the player to 'lockpicking' with the worms.
  • New final level - The last level is now procedural, so it'll be different every time you play!
  • Orb hitbox tweaks - Easier to fit into small gaps and less likely to hit corners of blocks whilst flying.
  • Improved worm AI - Worms behave much more consistently and prefer moving in straight lines.
  • Improved launch - Launching yourself and the orb with worms is much more consistent.
  • Reduced lifespan of lures - down from 10s to 4s, reduces the impact of infinite loops.
  • Lights no longer overlap
  • Fixed end screen displaying incorrectly
  • Fixed sequence break in the title cutscene
  • A few minor level tweaks

Thanks for reading til the end! If you're interested in the game or have any feedback, you can hop on over to the discord; https://discord.gg/RZ6YeTA

Nice! I don’t check all my itch.io notification emails so I miss a lot of updates, but I just found the Updates available section in itch app Downloads window, which is very convenient to find out what changed since the last time you installed it! (assuming you don’t change computer)

Using this I can easily find titles, esp. jam games, that got an update - this should be more widely known to users to help rewarding developers who regularly update!

Second run after update! 17mn 9sec… At first I didn’t download the update (itch app seems to have a bug and not show Update button, just Launch on the Downloads window and doesn’t warn you it’s an old version!), so at least I could train on the older version before doing this run.

The Moss Garden was very interesting, and much more “puzzly” in its approach (more control, smaller steps to move the snails precisely).

I had a few issues though, and esp. with the screen where you indirectly guide the glass ball with a single snail through some labyrinth. If you accidentally push the ball left first, then right again, it may fall into a corner and get stuck there. If at least my character could kick through the wall tile I would unstuck myself, but I had to reset completely.

Still some crazy Unity physics when snails can send the character or glass ball flying, but since in the Moss Garden it’s useful to make yourself spring up very fast or push the glass ball forward, I didn’t complain!

EDIT: oh, just realized I was commenting on the devlog… no wonder I was the only one commenting here! Well, as long as you can read it…
